Create a Hotmail Account

Microsoft discontinued the old Hotmail website and replaced it with Outlook.com. However, you can still create a new @hotmail.com account on your computer but with a slight difference where you will be using Outlook.com. You can also use the Microsoft Outlook mobile app to receive and send emails instead of the previous way.

How to use a Computer to Create a Hotmail Email Account

Follow the steps below to create your Hotmail email address from your computer.

  1. Go to hotmail website from your browser. It will take you to the Microsoft Outlook official website. However, you can choose to end your new email address with the @hotmail.com domain name.

  1. Click on Create Free Account. It is a blue button located on the right side of the page.
  2. Choose your new Hotmail email address by using your preferred name in the New Email text field. Then, choose hotmail.com from the drop-down menu.
  3. If the preferred name is available, you should go to the next page allowing you to create a password when you click Next. However, if the name is unavailable,  you can type something different and unique to get the option.
  4. Create Password.

In this section, you should choose a strong and secure password mixing capital letters, numbers and special characters.

  1. Go through the Microsoft’s policies and click Next.
  2. Fill in your full name and click Next. This name will be attached to your account.
  3. Fill in your date of birth and click Next.

You can also check to see if the region selected is correct before you continue. If it’s wrong, you can change it from the drop-down menu under Country/Region.

  1. Go through the Captcha to prove you are not a robot and click Next.
  2. Then choose whether you should stay signed in by clicking on Yes or No.
  3. You can then proceed to your new Hotmail inbox to access your mail.

How to Create a New Hotmail Address from a Phone or Tablet

Follow the steps below to create a Hotmail email address using your phone or tablet.

  1. Download and open the Microsoft Outlook email app on your device. It is represented by an icon of a blue calendar and a darker blue square written O inside.
  2. Click on Create New Account. If you are logged in to any other Microsoft-related accounts, you will be asked if you want to proceed. However, since you are creating a new account, click on Skip.
  3. Create your new Hotmail email address.

You can type in the New Email text field to fill in a unique address and then choose hotmail.com from the drop-down menu beside the field.
